Quilt Bliss, almost ready!

I am going to Quilt Bliss retreat in a few hours! I am almost ready, and think I have enough time to write this post. I am excited, I know a handful of girls, and hope to meet many more.

I had anxiety of what to pack. What to work on. Make sure I have enough without over packing like I always do. I have narrowed it down to a jellyroll quilt. Not sure which. But I figured at least I won't have to cut up lots of fabric. I am not going to do anything too complicated, because I want to not use my brain much this weekend. :)

They are having a low volume fat eighth swap. And a layer cake 10" swap. These are mine. I will get a variety of 20 in return.

There is a friendship swap too. I made this cute box pouch from a tutorial here. I am going to try to whip together an embroidery too because this seems not enough. The lining inside is that yellow ric rac. Hope she likes!

I am also going to work on a simple low volume 4" quilt. I will cut up from the low volume and text swaps to add to it. I have got a pretty cute pile going!

See you next week!

Valentine Canvas decor tutorial....

REPOST FROM LAST YEAR IN CASE YOU MISSED

Hello. Today I am going to show you a simple Valentine canvas tutorial. This project takes about 1 and a  half hours (with 3 littles), uses up fabric scraps, and costs around $5. Easy, cheap, adorable!

I will start by saying this would be really easy with paper and a punch, but I didn't have either. Plus I really like my fabric scrap selection.

All you need is a 16 x 20 canvas. I got mine from Walmart, 2 pack for $10. You could probably do better at Hobby Lobby with a coupon.  You will need scraps, craft paint, mod podge and a brush.

I didn't include a template, but my heart is around 3" high, and 3" wide. I just piled a bunch of scraps together and cut around my template. I probably did to many scraps, because I had to clean the edges up a bit. But I didn't care if the hearts were not all the exact same size. They appear to be, that's all that mattered to me.
First paint your canvas. I did more of a wash. Equal parts water and paint. I spread it around with a rag.  After it is dry, lay your hearts in place.

One row at a time, lift the hearts, spread mod podge, place hearts back and "glue" them down. Push tight if you didn't iron first (like me) Then once they are in place and look nice, spread mod podge on top.

Do this to all the rows. Push out any air bubbles (easy do do with fabric) Make sure your edges don't lift either.

Let it dry and hang or prop wherever you like!

Finished and cute! Hope you like!

Lovely bundles

Happy Monday friends!  This weekend felt long! Which I guess is a good thing?  Well the fact that school was out all last week (weather) except for 4 hours Friday and is off again today has probably contributed to that feeling.  I don't mind my oldest (6) out of school though, he is a really big help (mostly)!  But with our time spent with my family over the holidays he has been out of school for SEVEN WEEKS!  It was a straight up summer break for him!

While in Utah I indulged in too much fabric.  Heather and I can't help it.  It's a problem.  A very very pretty problem.

One of the gorgeous things we got was this awesome bundle from Knotted Thread.

Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille - Fat quarter bundle

We split the complete fat quarter bundle in half.  You'd be shocked at the time it takes us to do it.  Then after we split it we start trading and bargaining with each other.  It's ridiculous. Here is my half I ended up with:

Sorry for the annoying glow..the pic is from my phone.  It's hurting my eyes!!  Sorry :( Anyway I like my selection.  And Heather's. You can't go wrong really.

Well Jennifer owns Knotted Thread is a fun quilty friend of ours (follow her on IG like us, @knotted_thread) and a new sponsor...and we couldn't be happier!  We love promoting awesome shops and people!  Here is a little from Jennifer herself about her shop!

I have been open about 15 months, I focus on offering modern fabric bundles of all sizes (F8, FQ, 1/2) at affordable prices. I'm usually pretty quick on my turnaround shopping because lets face it, when we order fabric, most people are itching to start immediately and I don't want my customers to wait!

Jenean Morrison - True Colors - Complete F8 bundle

I also only charge shipping, so all overages of $1 or more are refunded when the labels are printed. We're expanding the shop a bit this year to include patterns (we have 3 available now) as well as quilt kits (diamonds in the sky by tula pink is available) to adding threads and notions later this year.

Jennifer has a generous deal for us all!  Use the coupon code QUILTSTORY10 for 10% off your purchase at Knotted Thread for the rest of the month.  And bonus...she's sticking mini charm packs in all orders over $30! (while supplies last)  I love those mini charm packs!  Anything mini is adorable right??

Thanks Jennifer!!

Meg's Seasonal Runners

When my mom was staying with me in October she and I put together an Ikea table that I'm using to decorate for holidays.  She asked me if I was going to make runners for each holiday to which I said "Probably".  And then she mentioned that would be so cool or neat...something along those line.

So the plan was made...not for me but for her!  I called Heather and told her my idea, to make mom runners for the major holidays/seasons.  She was in and we were on!  My holidays were Valentine's, Summer and Halloween.  Heather's were Spring, Fall and Christmas.

As you know our dear dad passed three days before Christmas.  It was so hard being in their home Christmas morning which a few weeks before I thought the very worst case scenario it would be my dad's last Christmas.  I was relieved that Heather and I already had thoughtful gifts for her.

Here was the start of my Valentine's:

And I shared a couple months ago the start to my Halloween blocks.  The whole runner is black and whites with just a few pops of purple.

I'll share the finishes on those another day (as well as Heather sharing hers!).  Here's my "cheater" runner. I say that because it's not quilted ;)

This is summer...our mom has shades of aqua and teal in her home.  I thought this could really fill in whenever.  Burlap, lace down the sides and ruffles on the end.

Sorry I didn't iron the burlap...again.  I was just too busy with everything going on but wanted to make sure I got some pictures before I wrapped them up!

I cut the ruffles on the bias.  Basically the edges are unfinished but they will not fray anymore than you see here, that's the beauty of cutting fabric on the bias!

There you have it.  She really liked them.  And I still don't have seasons for myself...what the heck??
