Scrappy Star Quilt from Quilting In the Cold

Love the scrappy look of this star quilt from Quilting in the Cold!  I love a good low volume background too!!  I also love the use of all the colors.  Check out Quilting in the Cold for lots of quilty goodness, I love this mini from a little while back and you have to see her latest post SANITY...love!!!!  Thanks for sharing!!

I really enjoyed putting this one together, particularly playing with the low volume charms. I also think I am finally getting the hang of half square triangles and even trimming them was not too bad!

I decided not to sash between the stars, primarily because I had no idea what to sash them with. But I am pleased with how they have turned out.

I finished my scrappy star quilt last week and am really pleased with how it has turned out.

I pushed myself out of my comfort zone for the quilting and did some bubbles. Lets just say they are organic! They do give a lovely texture though.

I bound it with fabric left over from the stars. It truly is a scrappy quilt! It is now headed off to my sister for Christmas.

Whimsy House and Fabric Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday!! I am going to hijack the show today and share something very exciting I've been working on!! And yes, Fabric Tuesday is still on!!

A couple months ago I decided I wanted to make my little Lucy a House Pillow for her 2nd Birthday.  I have a stack Up Parasol from Heather Bailey that I knew would be perfect!

Hers is pretty large, something around 11" x 18".

My absolute favorite part is that each door and window open to cute little fussy cut things.  A doggy, kitty (named Lucy!), Little Red Riding Hood and a sweet girl with a Bear.

Generally babies don't appreciate handmade...I can say confidently that she really loves this!! Makes me so happy!  She plays with it at nap time and she'll show me what's behind the windows and doors.  Her favorite is the door because it has a balloon :)

So I decided to crank out some more, a little smaller.  8.5" x 13".

Appliques and little trim details.

AND I've decided to make them for sale.  Eeek! I'm so excited!!

I will have just FOUR available today at 3 pm in our Ink and Bobbin etsy.

Some will have itty bitty buntings :)

Hexagon Flowers from The Quilt Barn

We love The Quilt Barn!  Heather has been fortunate enough to attend a quilting retreat at their brick and mortar shop in Idaho.  The Quilt Barn is an awesome shop with all things quilty and sewing.  Then they also have a cute blog and offer lots of fun tutorials and other things.  Here's an awesome hexi tutorial from Tara!

Anyone remember this quilt I made last year? I used about 18 Moda Mini Charm Packs and about 4 yards of background fabric.  I had a great time making it and it was, actually, pretty easy. It just takes lots of time.
I think of this as a modern Grandmother's Garden. I didn't want to sew together the hundreds of plain spacers that go between each flower. I was sure I would lose interest. Buuuut...if I didn't have to make the spacers? Perfect

Ice Cream Mini quilt finish....

My finished Ice Cream Cone mini quilt. I have to say, I love this mini. So much! I had so much fun making it. I created it for my daughters room. I am officially calling her room finished and moving onto another room to update...

I made these blocks from this tutorial . I used the paper pieced pattern and then had fun making all the different cones...They took a bit under an hour each, and I made seven of them over a couple months...

  I just guessed on the rest of it. I wanted the sashing and borders to be scrappy as the rest. It was easy and quick. The pearl bracelets are my backing...

I did a matchstick quilting. I kind of like this technique. It was fun and quick...

Finished mini. I really like how it turned out...

Here it is in my daughters room. I have spent so much time in this room. It has been a lot of fun. Almost everything in this room was created by me, or my daughter...My mother in law made the duvet and the bed skirt...

X-Plus Masterpiece Quilt from Simply Pieced

I am so in love with this X-Plus Masterpiece quilt!!!!!  In love!!  It is made by Janet from Simply Pieced.  I absolutely love her use of color.  Make sure to check out her other super cute finished quilts and her blog, Simply Pieced.

The anticipation of finishing this quilt has been such a motivation for me.  It was always a side project since it didn't have a deadline and it was a personal quilt for myself, but I was determined to finish it up before the Christmas projects started.

For this quilt, I used every single Denise Schmidt collection fabric I could find at Joann's within this color scheme.  I slowly started collecting these fabrics over a year ago in 1/4 yard increments.   Every time I stepped into the store, I would swing by the DS collection aisle and see if there was anything new and snatch it up.

I knew I wanted a scrappy feel for this quilt, which the x-plus quilt pattern lends itself to nicely, but I also wanted to create a sense of order.  I wasn't sure if using the oranges and yellows to highlight the plus signs would work out, but I was blown away once I saw the blocks come together.   

The various shades of blues and grays also add a lot of texture to the quilt top.

The quilt back is all the scraps.  I just started piecing everything together and this is what I came up with.  I didn't really have much of a plan when I started, but I really love how it turned out. 

The binding utilizes the orange and yellow fabrics to tie it all together.  I thought about going with a solid binding, but the patterned fabric was just too much fun to pass up.

This quilt simply makes me smile.  I've already snuggled under it on the couch and it is proudly displayed on my quilt rack in my sewing room.

Good Golly Ginger - Christmas Medallion Quilt. BEAUTIFUL

Goodness! We had to feature this amazing quilt by Katie from Good Golly Ginger. Seriously how cute is this? She created this quilt, and is finishing up writing a pattern that she will soon have for sale. Home For Christmas Medallion Quilt Over the weekend, I put the finishing touches on my new Home For Christmas Medallion quilt. 

I used Kona Cotton solids for all of the piecing.

Please ignore the horse manure in picture below. Yes, I will step in horse manure to get the perfect lighting for a photograph! It was worth it!

I love a quilt all rolled up. It's a bundle of happiness just waiting to be used.

The center star of the medallion is three concentric stars. This is surrounded by presents with colorful bows. The next border is peppermints. Christmas trees and corner ornaments surround the peppermints. A candy cane border surrounds all those Christmas trees. Finally, a border of bright suburban houses finishes the quilt with corner friendship stars.

I love that the quilt doesn't scream "Use for Christmas ONLY". It is more subtle, and I can use it for the entire winter season. Frankly, I'm sure this will stay in my living room year-round!
I free-motion-quilted the quilt with an all-over swirl design. It took seven bobbins of Isacord thread and two spools to finish all the quilting! The binding echoes the candy cane border.
