Hello again, Heather here. I think I am the last person on the planet to finish a granny squares quilt. I loved them when they first came on the scene. I just had a hard time finishing. I wanted tons of variety, and I was being really selective about prints. I LOVE how it turned out. So much!
Sweet Logan from Chocolate Dipped Quilts quilted this for me. I am MORE than happy with how it turned out. I love the orange peel design she die throughout all the sashing. She made all the white really pop, and somehow the contrast is even stronger than before the quilting.
I love this quilt, and it was nice meeting Logan from Chocolate Dipped Quilts twice. She was really sweet to me, a perfect stranger, and I cried to her on the side of the freeway when we first met to swap the quilt. My Dad was in the hospital, and I was just so scared. She asked if I was off to do some Christmas shopping, when actually I was off to the hospital. I was so caught off guard I just cried to her. She gave me a really sweet hug, and words of advice. Just love this quilting community.

PS this quilt is for me. Not my children. It looks like a baby quilt, but it is mine. I love pinks, yellows and blues, and super love pastels.

Also, I did the snuggly soft rosette minky on the back. So soft and warm. I love it so.

ReplyDeleteIt is just fabulous and I know that you will enjoy it, as long as you can keep anyone else from nabbing it. I have a granny square planned and hopefully will be able to get to it before the year is out.

And since you finished your granny square quilt before I've even started mine (hoping to use my stack of Posy) then that makes ME the last person on the planet. :) I'm so glad that you are keeping it for yourself. I'm thinking of making myself a Wee Wander quilt. Who says these fabrics are just for the kids?!

ReplyDeleteOmigosh! I just sewed with that swirly minky for the first time yesterday. In pink too! (But it was for a stuffed animal.) Now I must make a quilt to be backed in it. Oh, how sweet!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt. I like the bright white for sashing, it made the pastels really stand out. I don't think it looks like a baby quilt, I think it looks like a "Mommy Quilt." Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI'd never seen this block so I went to look for a tutorial just now. I love how you did yours compared to the pictures I'm seeing. I like all of the colors mixed up instead of just two colors in a block. Beautiful!

This seems like the perfect quilt for you at at time when you could use some comfort. Quilts are great that way. Take good care of yourself; it takes time to move through this.

ReplyDeleteHeather - I just love this quilt! It is so obvious that you spent lots of time and care with it. It is gorgeous! The minky back on a non-child's quilt is inspired... I may have to use minky for the back of one of my quilts now. ;)

Also - you aren't really the last one to make a granny square. I stared one at the beginning of January and put it down to make some "commissioned" things. So I basically only have the pieces cut out and mine is a super easy jelly roll design. lol. I truly love the colors in yours!
I am glad that you got to meet someone who could give you a hug, a shoulder, and thoughtful advice during such a heart breaking time for you. It sounds like God put her there at that time just because He knew that you needed her. I realize that your heart is still breaking over the loss of your father - please know that you and your family are being prayed for and loved by many of us out here in blogland and IG. I know that it won't make it better, but perhaps it can help in some way. Love to you and Meagan.

I love this quilt. Something about the pastels...so comfy. I can easily imagine snuggling under this quilt on a crisp autumn or spring morning, out on the porch swing with a cup of coffee in my hand. Cold air/warm sun, cold nose/warm hands around the coffee mug, cold cheeks/warm rest of me under the quilt! :)
