A Wedding Quilt by Dan

A bit ago Dan from Piece and Press linked up to Fabric Tuesday.  When I went back to check out the link I was having so much fun seeing his things, he just has a fresh, modern and urban take on quilting, I found myself quite intrigued!  He's self-described as designing gardens and sewing quilts.  Sounds fun!  Here's his Wedding Quilt:

We just gave this quilt to some good friends for their wedding. The pattern is 'Sexy Hexy' available for free from Amy Butler. It was a lot of fun to make and I enjoyed working with the bold bright prints. It was also my first experience working with glue stick - the center hexagons are stabilized with freezer paper, the seam allowances glue sticked to the back of the paper, and then top stitched to the already assembled outer rings of the hexagon. It made the tricky business of matching the corners very easy.

The biggest challenge on this project was completely self imposed. I fussy cut all the hexagon sides (except the columbine and lindy leaf, if memory serves) for maximum kaleidoscope effect. That's a lot of fussing! But I'm glad I did it.

The pieced back is a calmer palette of two blue fabrics.

I ran with the floral theme for the quilting. It's a free motion loopy daisy pattern (photo by Stacey Sharman).

The quilt is finished with a hand-embroidered label attached to the corner binding on the back of the blanket (photo by Stacey Sharman).

FINISHED QUILT! FABRIC giveaway!

FRESH SQUEEZED FABRIC GIVEAWAY and TUTORIAL

and
I am finished! I did free motion stippling all around, and I LOVE it a lot! I did super tiny stitches, and it took me 4-5 hours. (is that embarrassing? do you all do it in like 45 minutes) It is the biggest quilt I have done. I am loving playing with my machines free motion quilting, plus, if I add my girl math, that is another $50 less the cost of my machine. (remember every time I machine quilt a quilt myself, I get to deduct $50 off what I paid for my machine) My husband said "soon I am going to be owing you money"...thats the spirit!

Don't you just love the just out of the dryer crinkliness? (is that a word, I was sure it was, but spell check sure thinks it isn't)

EASY TUTORIAL
1. Create six dutch pinwheels here
2. Assemble the 6 pinwheels according to quilt photo.
3. Add 2" brown stop borders
5.  Add 6" outside borders
Finished quilt size 50 x 68

Little Bluebell's LOVE Quilt

Hey all!  Welcome to Quilt Story :)  Today we're featuring Adrianne from Little Bluebell Love quilt.  And it is definitely one to LOVE :)  She's got a great list of finished quilts, it's fabulously listed so you can see the image of each quilt and then she has a link to each time she blogged about it.  Genius. :)  Great little quilting blog so make sure to stop by Little Bluebell.

This is "Love" and it is brought to you by the Beatles, late nights with my sewing machine, chocolate, and a vanilla latte or two.

Love's Story:
I have a long list of "want to do" quilts.

You know how it goes, you see a quilt you love, you're inspired and you add it to your "list".  You can't start it now.  You don't have the fabric you need.  You're in the middle of another project.  You just can't.  Not right now.

This quilt never made my list.  One day it all came together in my head.  The Love fabric, the appliqued circles, the scrappy border and white, lots of white.  I just went for it.  I started cutting, ironing and piecing.  It was liberating!!

Try it.  The very next time you have a quilt idea, just go for it!!

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions on the previous "Love" post.  I went with aqua binding and free motion quilting, and I totally changed my mind on the backing fabric.  It was just too busy.  I may use the fabric to make some lounge pants from Amy Butler's book.  An appropriate pairing I think!  : )

Fabric Tuesday #25

Hi, remember this fabric stash I got back in December? Love these fabrics. Then I found a perfect 100% cotton sheet set for the sashing that matched PERFECTLY!

I didn't want to chop into the big print very much, so I designed a pretty simple layout to show off the prints off. Problem is, I think the sashing is too large now, and it bothers me.

I was thinking to put something in the middle of the sashing, maybe some ruffles? some applique?  leave it as is? Any suggestions? I would appreciate it!

Meg and I have been busy crafting and playing lately, so we were not able to comment on last weeks Fabric Tuesday Linky's, but we loved them all.  We really try to reply to projects, and love looking through all the linkups. Thanks for coming back each week.

I got these gorgeous Sandi Henderson Fabrics from SkyeReve Fabrics. Super cute etsy shop. Check them out!

FABRIC TUESDAY!
Edition 25
Link up a recent craft project that uses fabric...if you're new don't be shy!  This is for everyone.  Click the button to add your link at the bottom and link up a recent blog post where you used fabric to create or enhance something. Below are a few "rules" to play.

Mention us in your post with either a link or make it easy and add the button to your blog sidebar and you won't have to remember each week. ***You can take either our blog or our Fabric Tuesday buttons on the sidebar.***
PLEASE READ ME:
Most everyone does this, but please actually mention that you are linking up to Quilt Story in your post...even if you have the button on the sidebar there needs to be mention in the post :)  We've just seen a couple where we can't see any button or link to us and then we scroll way way down and there's the button...we want to make sure everyone knows so everyone can play!  Thank you!!

You don't have to do this to link up, promise. However if you want to follow us, we follow back :) But please comment telling us you did so and we will hop right on over and make sure we're following too!

And how about we each take time to comment on the link just before yours, that's easy enough right? We'd love for this to be a linky party where everyone gets comments, so if you take the time to look, take a second to leave a comment!

***We received an email from Mr. Mclinky, there is a chance there may be problems with the thumbnail images, if that's the case hopefully it will fix soon.  However you should be able to link up no matter what, just maybe no image.  Go figure, once you start paying for something it doesn't work!
