A pillow for my little guys room...

Heather here. Just wanted to share a quick finish with you all. I did another quilt as you go pillow for my little mans room. I started with a hexagon goldfish and did the quilt-as-you-go method around and around. Adding bits and pieces of my favorite fabrics...

After I trimmed it, I ended up with this. The back is just a simple envelope closure, and a blue binding all around...

My little guy had a fun time finding all sorts of fun things in each print. I am suprised how much he loves these pillows. He sleeps on them, not his real pillow each night. But that is fine by me. It is nice that he actually cares. 

Triangle quilt and a room redo...

Sorry about the camera phone photos, these smart phones take such good photos, that I have been neglecting my nice camera. Anyhow, I have been redoing my daughters room. We are doing soft mint, ballet slipper pink, soft tones and gold...

After walls were painted, I started painting items for her room, and sewing bedding. First is this triangle quilt pillow. I used this tutorial I found on Pinterest. Pretty easy, the triangles were easier than I anticipated. 

I quilted the sham with just a quarter inch around each seam. Simple and nice. 

Here is the first pillow on her bed. Love. 

 I made this sheepie a while ago. I love her. One of the favorite things I have ever made. And I had my husband make me this little wooden house. I used this pretty Brambleberry Ridge fabric from Michael Miller as wallpaper. (the same fabric line in the pillows)

What makes me happiest about this room is how much me and my daughter created for it. We painted the walls together, and everything on this wall is made by us except the flying bunny. (and frames) I painted all the art, and me and my daughter did the embroidery projects. 

 Then I was on a roll, so I decided to make a "quilt as you go" pillow. I loved making this pillow. Fast cute fun project....

We still have a few more plans, but I am really happy with everything so far!

WIP finish! YAY

I had this quilt top in my closet for several years now. ...

normally I don't get to the point of the finished top. I normally have several blocks done...

But this was done, just sitting there. My nice Mother in Law took it home and finished it. 

baste. quilt. bind. She is so nice to me. 

Not sure what I am going to do with it yet. But it makes me happy. A finished darling quilt just sitting there.

My Bright Colorful Rainbow Polka-dot HST mini quilt...

If you have been following me on Instagram (@quiltstory. Megan is @quiltstorymeg.) you have seen this all before. My bright colorful rainbow polkadot HST mini quilt. (that's it's official name)

Started with a bunch of 3.5" HST's

Found the block on Pinterest. Pretty easy layout. Did some straight line quilting. (super easy since it was a mini)

Even went with some colorful polkadot backing and binding, over the top, I know. 

Ta- Da! I just love the pop of metallics. They are Michael Miller mirror ball dots. Love. 

And I even have it up on the wall with a few other watercolors, embroideries and another mini. It makes me happy. Hope you like it!

Tube piecing. Fun technique...

Have you guys tried the "tube" technique? It is a simple technique with jelly roll strips.  Pretty simple and fun, with a lot of options. 

I found this tutorial, from Missouri Star Company on the technique. Watch it, it's cool. 

What you are left with is a bunch of blocks like these. They you basically have "cooler" half square triangles, with all the layout possibilities. 

I did this zig zag chevron pattern. I really like it. Problem is, I didn't make many blocks. I was just planning a few decor items for my living room, but I changed my mind on colors. So now I am not sure what to make with them. Too small for a quilt. Not the right colors for a pillow or mini...hmmm.. I guess it will just go into the pile of UFO's and one day, hopefully, I will come back to it.

WIP's Heather Ross flying geese stars...and a dilemma...

Hi friends! Spring is here and it sure has helped my mood!

I found these in my UFO closet. It is getting a bit embarrassing in there. I need to spend a few months just finishing up all my unfinished projects. You? 

Several months ago I was lucky enough to come upon some Heather Ross charm squares on Instagram. I got such a great variety. Then I added in my stash, and I started creating stars. 

I love each and every one of these blocks.




Problem is, I used a tutorial online, and I tweaked the numbers a bit. Enough that I don't think I can figure it out again. It was for creating some flying geese but I liked the extra space it gave on the points. I am not good enough at math and triangles to try to figure out what I did, and I can't find the tutorial with my new numbers again.


What would you do? How can I solve this dilemma? Any ideas?


This is one of my favorites. Because I had two Dalmations growing up. Penny and Trixie. And I have 2 beagles now, Scamp and Duchess.



Another dilemma, if I do figure out the measurements, do you think I can have any duplicate middle prints? I am obviously trying to make this colorful and scrappy, so do you think I can have any matching centers (even if the rest doesn't match?)

Merry Christmas Megan! (late)

Megan and I started a tradition a few years ago with our other sister to make each other Christmas gifts instead of store bought. I love this tradition. But more years than not, we are late, sometimes really late. 

This year of course, something way more important was on our mind than gifts, sewing or Christmas, being with our Dad. 

I started these in early December because I was going to be on time. I didn't finish, but it sure was nice to have them mostly done. As much as I want sewing and creating to be my therapy as I grieve, even that has seemed to hard most the time. 

I finally finished about a month ago and sent them to Meg. It brightened her day. It has been hard being so far from Megan during this time. 

Anyhow, these were the potholders from the amazing NanaCompany tutorial. I also learned the quilt as you go technique from a Craftsy class, I can't wait to do more. 

The red and aqua make me so happy!

I am getting more work done on it!

I am getting closer. I am totally trying to channel Rita of Red Pepper Quilts. How am I doing? 

I went to sew with a group set up by Marion, of  My Quilt Diet. It was a fun day meeting lots of new ladies. 

Hopefully I can complete the top soon. I am sort of loving it.
