Kona IronDean and Winners

A couple months ago (here) we asked you all to vote for our Uncle Dean who is fighting the most aggressive form of brain cancer.  He was a three time IronMan and too many to count marathon athlete.  He's also an amazing husband, dad and grandfather.  His dream has always been to compete in the Kona IronMan.  Because of your votes he was able to compete this past weekend!!!!!

Despite his tumors coming back this summer he continued to train.  On Saturday morning the race began in Hawaii and our huge family watched from all over the US  a little dot that tracked him all day.  Unfortunately he was pulled from the race during the bike leg.  He made it to mile 107 of 112 and wouldn't make the transition time to run.  Despite him not being able to finish I am sure you can imagine the inspiration of this man and his wonderful family.  Just follow Team IronDean on facebook and I guarantee you will be uplifted.  A great article was written in the Deseret News yesterday.  Thanks again to everyone for your votes, thoughts, prayers and support!!!

And totally unrelated but I needed to post!!!  Two winners from our Blog-ditty-Blog post where we asked for input on our blog!! (You can still comment!)  First winner for the Fat Quarters and Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe, second winner for 2 Quilt Story PDF Patterns:

Love seeing finished quilts. Quilt progress to a certain extent, the more difficult to quilt the more interested I am in seeing someone's progress, I do love seeing featured quilts; it helps me find new blogs to follow. Fabric lines & stashes ~ if it's a sponsored post I'm more likely to click over & read it, just because those hits help the blogger out, which benefits your readers in the long run. I mostly do quilts, not really all that interested in bags & the like, so other sewing projects likely won't entice me. New products, notions & designers, occasionally it's ok, but not a steady diet of it. Guest posts, sure, sometimes.
Love giveaways. Everybody benefits from well-run giveaways :) Tutorials seem to be really popular with other people, but I don't follow directions well, so normally ignore those.I love linky parties; it's a great way to find new blogs. Home decor projects is a no. Loved the Lucky Stars Quilt Along, but honestly that's not something I would normally do. Actually enjoy an occasional personal post, it's nice to know the person behind the quilt, at least a little bit.
Advertising ~ hate pop-ups. floaters & audio that comes on as soon as the blog loads. Sidebar advertising is a Yay! A lot of people blog as a business, & there's absolutely nothing wrong with advertisements & sponsored posts. In the long run it helps the blogger, the advertisers, & your readers. So I say yay to ads, as long as they don't take over your entire blog.

I love the linky on Tuesdays, tutorials are great, especially featuring other bloggers too. I don't mind the ads at all-as long as they are quilting/sewing/fabric related.

Lattice Quilt from Shush-I'm quilting...

Liz is the lovely blogger from Shush-I'm Quilting, a fun quilting blog. Liz is a fancy litigation lawyer by day, and who just came out of the closet! (I didn't think there was anything to be ashamed about! Actually I do, I feel like I always have to taper down my crafting/quilting obsessions, or people might think I am crazy :) I came across this darling Lattice Quilt of Liz's, and had to feature it. Here are a few more of Liz's Quilt finishes. Love this darling pillow she posted today...cute stuff!

Hello quilty friends. It's been quite an exhausting week in the Shush household, I finished the lattice quilt.

Yes you heard me right - the Lattice Quilt is all finished.  This quilt has been such a rollercoaster ride - it waspretty hit and miss there for a while whether it would get finished at all.  Then there was the greasy mark incident - I mean honestly, you wonder if some things aren't meant to be.  But now it's finished, and the world is a better place.

Well, that might be a bit extreme, but I'm sure happy.

And because hubby has a new camera, I even took it outside for a photo shoot. I'm not sure quite why a quilt would choose to drape over a bench seat in the sunshine, but apparently that was what it wanted to do.  Who am I to question these things?

The wind conveniently wanted to show you the DS 2011 print on the back. That is no artful arrangement of mine, I tell you. I was responsible for the broom in the background though. Really wishing I'd moved it now ...

Lazy lounging lattice

Are you loving it?  I am, and that of course is the ultimate test of taste and discernment in quilting.

Luxuriating lattice

After it had finished draping and fluttering around being artful, quilt told me it would like to be folded up and sit on the wee table. This is so you can admire the chocolate binding. And it turns out we all like chocolate, don't we?!  Don't forget to ooh and ahh over the stippling plus straight line quilting.

The total size is roughly 56" x 74", and it's made of only 12 blocks. The patchwork fabric is Coquette by Moda.  I had a layer cake to use, and I have enough leftover to make something else. Like I need another project on the go!  The solids are a random hot pink and aqua from Spotlight. Here's hoping that pink doesn't run in the wash. Then there would be tears before bedtime.

I have set out before the rough details of how it was made. But let me know if you want a proper tutorial with all the deets so you don't have to go rummaging around the interwebby. I could do that for you, my quilty friends. Yes, I could.

I'm feeling pretty good now it's done. Now it's on to Oh Deer (blergh), the Zombie Quilt (grab your hatchet, there may be bloodshed), EPP (that's not finishing any time soon) and my Citrus Sweet Love BOM. Plus anything else I can think to start from the monster stash. I just can't. stop. shopping.

Linking up to all the fabulous linky parties. Howdy visitors!  I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Diamond Drop pattern....

Yay! I have a new quilt finished!  This fall has really been tough on Meg and I. Megan with her move, and my kids and their overloaded fall schedules has been really kickin my butt lately. I love to sneak in some sewing time when I can. It is my stress reliever!

This pattern is called Diamond Drop...

I made it from Riley Blakes line Little Red, by Tasha Noel. Love this line! Lots

I took these photos at a cabin we go to for a family reunion each summer. Pretty place...

As always, you can buy this pattern, and any of our others at our ETSY shop...

Isn't it sweet?
