Simple Sewing 30 Book Review!

Hello friends!! I was asked by Katie from The Red Kitchen to review her book Simple Sewing: 30 Fast and Easy Projects for Beginners.

The book is pretty. Clear instructions and beautiful photos. That is a must to me :)

Lots of fun and sweet projects for kids and around the home. Good gifts too! I decided to make some little bibs for my Lucy! All her bibs are currently boy bibs and that was just wrong.

I decided to add the ruffle to one...the idea is good but I don't love it, I think the pale pink just looks too pretty/princess. And the dogs I totally meant for them to be upside down so Lucy could see them right side up! (not) #toolatetostartover

Yes I know hashtags don't work in blog posts. But it's funny. To me. At 11 PM.

I used a cotton print on one side and a flannel on the other. I always use a flannel or terry cloth on my bibs, I think it helps with the absorbency.

I picked up these flannels the other day at Joann. I love love the deer print. Love.

This book is good, well written, clear instructions/pictures and diagrams. It is what it says in the title, Fast and Easy Projects for Beginners. Straight forward sewing that anyone could do. No fussy materials or fancy techniques or stitches. This book would be ideal for teaching a child to sew or gifting with a bundle of fabric to a beginner!

Deploy that Fabric Giveaway!

One of our uber talented blogging friends Jen of ReannaLily Designs is launching her new book right now, and you may have seen it all over blog land. It's called Deploy that Fabric:

How great of an idea is this??? Jen dedicated her book to her husband, still active in the military. She has worked with military uniforms for quite a few friends and clients (check out this gallery) and put a lot of her ideas into one book. I got the opportunity to review Deploy that Fabric and it is clear, great instructions, diagrams and projects that I'm excited about!! I think it would make a great gift too. Here are a couple of my favorite projects from the book.

Stockings would be so precious! And if you don't know someone in the military I think there are a lot of ways you could use these patterns, for fun or for other materials with a lot of meaning.

How cool is this bag? I love the camo with the happy fabric, great design.

Has anyone you've known or loved served in the military? Or you? Both of our grandfather's served in WWII and now I'd like to find out if their uniforms are still around somewhere :) In fact when our grandfather left England our grandma was pregnant with their first child. He served all over Europe and returned five years later. He didn't meet his own son until he was five, how crazy is that? My grandma says they stayed up all night talking and it was like a whole new person and marriage. They were happy and in love until his passing more than 20 years ago. Hearing her tell stories of the war in England are unreal like when she was running through an alley because bombs were falling through the sky...definitely puts life into perspective.

Thank you to all who have and will serve us in our armed forces. We are truly grateful.

Fabric Tuesday and Sewing for Boys!!

I got a super cute book to review for you all today...and maybe you've seen it already on the blog book tour. Sewing for Boys from Patterns by Figgy. I was lucky to snag a copy...after all I do have two little boys!! This book is darling. A wide range of boys clothing (and some other fun projects too). Those of us who have boys and sew know how rare it is to find projects for our little guys!

Here are a couple of the projects that I plan on delving into asap! I love jackets for little guys...especially living in AZ that's all I need for the winter. I didn't get a great close-up on the jacket (boo to me). My 2 year old is going to love it.
