April 5, 2012 10:41 AM

Okay, tell me I am  not the only one who has done this...I told my husband I don't neednew matchy matchy outfits for all the 5 kids this Easter, I love doing it, but it adds up, and nobody needs new clothes. But I really wanted this super cute outfit fit for my little man Moosehead. Then on Friday (2 days before Easter) I decided that I desperately did want them to be matchy matchy on Easter, at least coordinate. I didn't want to spend much money though, plus I already made a deal with my husband.  I rushed to Material Girls (my LQS) and bought a few adorable prints to make my oldest and youngest girls some Easter clothes. (The other 2 girls I just pulled from their closets)

I followed this tutorial. Turns out you need to be exactly this girls size to make this, or be smart enough beforehand to figure that even though you can tie the top, if it is to big (which it was) it wouldn't really work properly, all twisted in back, and bunched up skirt that didn't lay nice. I tried to tweak it and make it work, but in the end, 3 hours before church on Sunday, I basically restarted. I love how it turned out, even though it was still to big for her....

I followed this tutorial I found on pinterest. Using some darling Heather Bailey, ruby for sleeves, and woodland tails for the main body. LOVE it!  I already had the woodland tails from this gorgeous pile of fabric I got in the mailbox a week ago from intrepid thread. This is my favorite Riley Blake line right now, freakin' cute!

And this is how darling they all turned out!  Cute kids huh?  Ahh they make my heart pitter patter...

And I may blow this photo up really large for my entry, the one I have now only has the three oldest girls, pathetic I know!   What do you think?

What did you guys spin up this week? Can't wait to see...

 Heather Bailey Freshcut 30 Fat Quarters (18" x 22")
from Heather Bailey's 2012 re-release of Freshcut!  There are 24 bolts in this line so you will receive one fat quarter from all the bolts plus a doubled fat quarter from 6 bolts to equal 30.  This line was first introduced in 2007 but has been in

demand since so she and Free Spirit decided to reintroduce a smaller variety of

fabrics for those of us who were hoping for more but couldn't find it and
a $96.00 value! A Joyful Soul Fabrics has written a great tutorial for a quilt top using

this bundle and we'll include a copy of it with the giveaway!

This sample is the 60" x 75" version.  It uses 20 fat quarters for the top so I used the remaining 10 from the kit to piece my backing!  I love pieced backs!  You can also make this top 75" x 90" if you use all 30 fat quarters.

What is unique about Joyful Soul fabrics? We asked them, here is what they said:

We specialize in the more contemporary fabrics and

patterns.   With us, you'll receive stellar customer service!  We

provide unique quilt, handbag and project kits and patterns.  We have a
monthly club that started up in March.  You can choose from Fat Quarters

or strips (or both!) and for an automatic charge of $35 per month (plus shipping ans sales tax in Texas) You'll also receive a free pattern card every month!  We are a military family owned business!
Having an online and traveling shop allows us to stay portable and set-up wherever the Navy sends us!  In addition to our web store, we set-up as vendors at various quilt shows in the OK and TX area.  I would love to open a brick and mortar shop but until those Navy retirement papers are signed, no roots for me! If you are in or around Texas, we'll be in Brownwood, TX April 28-29, Abilene, TX June 1-2, and Austin, TX September 14-16 and we're adding more dates!

Katydid's first quilt!

Laura from Katydid's is a multi talented lady.  Today we're featuring her very first quilt.  She enjoys a variety of creative projects, like home decor, embroidered gnome napkins, drink charms and even housekeeping tips!  Let's give Laura a big welcome the quilting world!

When I was approached by Heather and Megan to tell a Quilt Story, I knew I had to share the experience of making my first quilt.  I am a completely self-taught sewer and only dusted off an old sewing machine about 3 years ago.  I never thought I would ever quilt.  I’ll admit it.  I was biased.  I didn’t think quilting would fit my style.  I like modern, bright colors and clean lines.  And I thought quilts only fit in with country décor.  (Not that there’s anything wrong with country style, it just wasn’t for me!)  Plus…it looked really, really hard to do!

Then I started reading Jane Brocket’s wonderful book, The Gentle Art of Domesticity.  She’s a renegade, modern quilter and, as I read her story, I began to get the quilting itch.  Before I knew it, I was enrolled in a beginner’s quilting class.  The class was wonderful and in one month, I walked away with my first finished baby quilt. The pattern is called Winning Hand and I used Heather Bailey and other fun fabrics in it.   The class not only taught me quilting, but really improved my sewing skills and my eye for pattern and color.  Since I created my first quilt two years ago, I’ve made three others.  All small sized.  I’m currently trying to get the courage to make a twin sized quilt.  And hand quilt it!  I’ve only machine-quilted and “stitched in the ditch” and I know I’m missing out on a key part of quilting.  Come and visit me on my blog and see what I’m up to.  You never know there may just be entry in the near future, when I show-off my first twin-sized quilt!

Fabric Tuesdays!

Welcome to Fabric Tuesdays!! We've been bouncing this idea around forever and we are finally ready to start, and we hope you'll play along and tell your friends :)

First we want to show a fabric finish of our own for the week. Heather and I felt like we had a lot of spare time and hardly anything on our plate, so we decided to sign up for a virtual quilting bee. Essentially every month we receive fabric and instructions from another member, create a block for them and mail it back by the end of the month. This bee happens to be a house block bee. c.u.t.e.

Here is Heather's finish.
This block was totally freestyle. I ended up loving it! It helped that the instructions were for a "wonky" house. I started with the window and put a little gnome and girl with a balloon in it. Then I added shutters...Then I made the little piece with the door and frame. I just kept adding and adding.

The address is just because I felt there was alot of extra space floating on the house. I feel like I should have made it part of her home address, but that genius didn't come to me until I finished the numbers. I hope she likes it!

This is my second block. She wanted freestyle too. At first my house was to tall and skinny and I thought it looked like an outhouse. I added the grass and made it a shorter house and it fixed that problem.
She also gave us some cute owls and little kids playing and wanted them added in. I appliqued them and the tree. I like the final product. Hopefully the lady in my group does too... (if I make them cute houses, I think I will get them back. I am one of the last to send out fabrics) So far virtual quilting bee's are fun!
Now we want to see YOUR fabric finishes!

Here's how our linky party will work.  First, the new button.

Blue is Blue, Star block quilt...

Morning everyone, this is from Audrie from Blue is Blue.  If you haven't checked out her blog, you must! Amazing stuff going on there. This was Audrie's first attempt at a star block quilt...(I am rather impressed!).  Beautiful work Audrie, now everyone, head over to her blog...(after you read her story of course...)
Last September, I answered a call from AmandaJean of Crazy Mom Quilts,  to make star blocks for quilts to be donated to Quilts of Valor. I immediately decided I wanted to make a block for such a good cause -- QOV gifts the donated quilts to the recuperating servicemen injured in the line of duty.

I'd never made a star block before, so of course I was nervous. But I was instantly hooked and slightly annoyed at myself that I'd only pledged to do one! So of course the obvious thing to do to rectify this was to make an entire quilt of stars.
At that time, I'd only been quilting for four months and had been afraid to use designer fabric. I'd used pre-cuts but this was my first foray into using yardage from my LQS. Saying that I was nervous cutting into these lovely fabrics is a severe understatement.

The fabrics, by Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Howard Marcus and Tina Givens, are just lovely and sit so beautifully together. I named it Stars Align because this quilt just came together so easily. This is still one of my favourite quilts and every time I come across a picture of it, I can't help but smile. Every time I think about making a star quilt, this one pops in my head :)

I knew I couldn't keep it when I made it since it was too little for a lap quilt. At Christmas, it went to live with a lady in Sydney, Australia who gifted it to her little one. Being that I grew up in Australia, it thrills me that this quilt now lives in a place I still call home.
