I have two little boys (have I mentioned that before? :) So I am always on the lookout for boy patterns, fabrics, ideas! For market I decided I wanted a couple of really BOY quilt patterns. First was On the Go, second is Rocket Boy!
I wanted to do some tradtional piecing with the double hourglass and then add some fun applique pieces to give it some orginality and character. Don"t be fooled though, this quilt can come together fast!
I love the Americana feel this colorway and fabrics give to the pattern. I am shopping around for another line to use for it too...I thought some really bright prints, maybe even starting at the bottom with browns, then greens, blues ending with purples would give the feel of shooting into outer space!
As I've said before, often when we finish a quilt that will be in shops or on a pattern cover, we have out Aunt Wendy quilt it. She's just too good! I really wanted to have the stars, rocket and "Shoot for the Moon" to pop! She suggested overall stippling and then outlining the applique pieces...and I think it worked fabulously!
I also asked for her to put an "S" and "O" in each of the rocket windows to represent my boys :) She obliged.

What a great quilt! I bet your boys love it. I like your brown/green/blue/purple color theory, I think it would look fabulous in those colors.
I love the little rockets! So cute!
That is such a super cute quilt!!!!
