A Dress for a Little Lucy Lady

 I'm sooo excited to share this sweet little dress I made!  I'm quite proud of myself...it's the most ambitious clothing pattern I've attempted without my mommy.  Although I did call her :)

She will most definitely fetch eggs in this sweet dress!  It is a little big but should be perfect size in a couple months.

I simply adore this fabric!!  It's from Pam Kitty Picnic.  I got it from a really sweet shop, Strawberry Blossom Mercantile...she's got lots of really sweet prints including Lecien and sweet florals.

Full dress.  Pleated at the top and back, peter pan collar and a double layer at the bottom.  The pattern called for ric-rac but it didn't match this sweet floral dress and luckily I found a matching periwinkle trim!

I love her.  And yes she was spinning in it!! :)  How sweet is my Lucy??  I'd also describe her as feisty, loving, playful, funny, curious.... She's almost 18 months old, I can hardly believe it.  Our family certainly wouldn't be the same without her.  And I sure love having my girl!

I used Simplicity Baby pattern 1921 (Joann's for 99 cents!).  I did the blue dress on the right.  As you can see it had a large collar.  I cut it out and I just didn't like it. It overpowered the dress maybe? Too heavy? Any way I asked some of my best sewing friends and decided on altering it to a Peter Pan collar. I'm very happy I did!

And I'm ready to make my next one.  No such things as too many dresses right?

Sarah Jane horse dress for Sophie...

 Sophie's new horse dress. She couldn't be happier. Already planning to wear it again tomorrow.

This print is from Sarah Jane Studios brand new Wee Wander line. Every new line she comes up with is just more and more adorable. I LOVE this line so much!

My Mom and I whipped up this cute little dress for Sophie. We used Burda 9504 pattern. Warning, we had a serious problem with the bodice. In the end my mom (who used to make tons of our clothes) was able to finish the pattern, not how they were asking us to. (I am still confused.)

But I do love this dress pattern so so much. My sweet Sophie will only wear dresses or skirts. That is all. I like the retro style of this dress, short, high waisted, collar, just love it.

She is such a doll to sew for. She was super happy, and is already asking for another. Oh fine.

SOPHIE SASSY PANTS AND THE SAILOR DRESS

I have told you a bit about my youngest daughter Sophie here and here.

She is my little firecracker pip squeak. She says funny things (not on purpose, don't you love 4 and 5 year olds for that reason?) Like "It's not Yucky Charms, it's Yummy Charms!" 

Also, one day I bought her a new dress (She loves dresses more than anything in the whole world). She was so excited and to thank me and compliment me she said "Thank you Mommy! You are not stupid anymore!"

She gives me more trouble and noise in the 10 minutes she is home from Kindergarden, than her little 3 year old brother Wes gives me the whole time she is gone. 

Sophie has been known to go up to perfect stranger girls at the park and say "My shoes are cuter than yours."  She changes clothes at least 5 times a day too.

However, she can be sweet too. We were playing skipbo as a family and I was out first and made a frown. She was so sad for me that she "gave" me her last win. She also always goes nuts with me about new fabric, just the response that I need that the older girls won't give me. She loves to snuggle me too.

She treats her little brother Wes like he is still a newborn infant who needs everything done for him. Always baby talking him and getting things for him. (I won't tell you how she treats her older sisters.)

And although she has plenty hand me down dresses from her 3 older sisters, I can't help buying her more here and there. She LOVES new (or used) dresses and shoes so much! She hugs them and hops up and down. Then she will put them on and pose like a princess while batting her eyelashes (how could you resist that?)

This was a sailor dress her mother in law made for  her by my request (I have an awesome Mother-in-Law) She had to combine a few patterns to get the dress, but I love how it turned out. Sophie wore it for the first day of school. (and many other days)

Out to Sea by Sarah Jane

If you fell in love with Sarah Jane's debut line, Children at Play for Michael Miller, then hold on to your chair...you're about to see some unbelievably darling fabric if you haven't already.  Her newest line, Out to Sea, is out-of-control sweet and whimsical, have I let you know that I'm smitten??

Heather and I have so many plans going on for this fabric, so exciting!  Several new patterns featuring this line will be coming out by August, so excited!!  The fabric should be available online and in shops starting in August.

Now as much as I tried to control myself, I couldn't.  I tried to finish up a couple of other projects before I got my chubby little fingers on this...but it wasn't meant to be.  Sigh.  I just had to cut into it!  I found this tutorial (thank you Pinterest!) and knew it would be perfect little project to finish up fast.  With a few little changes/additions I made this super sweet dress for baby girl:

I added sweet little pleats in the front, that was my first time doing that and I think it looks so cute!  And of course I added the bow :)

Since my little one isn't here yet I'm doing my best to ensure everything I make will actually fit, lol!  So I added a couple of button holes and buttons to make the straps adjustable.  The size is about 6-12 months, the pink anchor elastic will hit her just under the armpits.

Yes...I do stop to look at it several times a day.  That fabric is just so cute, I could throw a scrap of it on a stray dog and want to adopt it.  Right??

Fabric Tuesday!

I swear to you, I barely shower these days. I am consumed with baby girl things!! As evidence see here and here.  Sigh.  It just gets me so excited.  But I have to stop at least for a while, so many more things to do plus it's summer and little people want to swim and play all day :)

I found this tutorial for the sweetest little dress.  I added the band on the bottom to tie in with the bows.  I am loving the finish.  Great tutorial by the way.  I followed the links she had at the bottom for the shirring.  Okay I am freaking out...I cannot find the tutorial!! I am so sorry to you (and the girl who did it!!) if you know where it is please tell me.  I will look more tomorrow!! I know I found it on pinterest but I can't see it on my board!

Fabric: Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey for Moda

I had never shirred before, I was a little intimidated.  I started on some scrap piece and used a whole bobbin  and got no where!  I didn't know what the problem was, my elastic was crazy-gathered in the back. So my next bobbin I wound tighter...I didn't stretch the elastic but it was a nice firm wrap :) That must have been it because I decided to jump in and sew it and it worked fabulously!  (Well don't look too close :)

And of course my baby will be born in October (in Arizona lol) so naturally she needs loads of blankets.  Whipped up a couple more with mitred corners :)

Announcement!

Megan here! :)  Well at the end of January my honey and I found out some very exciting news...that we were going to be having our third baby!  Baby's due date is October 11th which turns out to be 10-11-12.  Kinda cool huh?

Last Thursday we set out to find out the baby's gender.  Since it's a 30+ minute ultrasound we decided to leave the boys with a friend.  When we dropped them off we told them when we came back we would bring a balloon in the color of the baby's gender.  Pink for girl, blue for boy.

I am still in shock!!! It's hard after two boys to imagine anything but boy!  But my husband, boys and I are all thrilled :)

Which leads me to some eye candy.  The first thing I did when I got home was shop my fabric stash :)  Found some cute and easy girl tutes via Pinterest and before you knew it I had some little girl dresses and diaper covers in the works!

Aren't they sweet??  I haven't been able to stop admiring them all week.  And more poor husband.  And boys...this is going to be a long summer for them!  All I do is walk around with girl clothes, fabrics, and talk in a high-pitched voice :)  Luckily I have Heather and my mom to talk too and some nice friend who indulge me :)

The dresses were a tutorial from the sweetest Abby at Sew Much Ado, aren't they sweet?  Great tutorial, really easy to follow.  The size is 0-3 months.

The diaper covers are a tutorial from Made...another great tute, several sizes given to cut out.  The only thing I'd do different when I make them again is to cut the leg openings on the bias.  They were extremely hard to fold in and sew without puckers.  Luckily you gather them with elastic so you can't tell.  I just had to add some ruffles to the bum on the red one!!

I found the perfect little trim to add to this set at Joann's.  I was so happy when I saw it, the perfect little retro flowers in orange and yellow.  I plan to make a simple headband with the trim too :)

Hello! It's about time I have something to show on fabric Tuesday! I got a couple fun projects finished up, this darling tunic dress on my darling daughter...

and these teeny tiny adorable pillows...LOVE them!

Both patterns came from this Girl's World book. I won it last year at market when a whole bunch of bloggers got together to actually meet each other.  I was super happy, Jennifer Paganelli is one of my very favorite fabric designers of all times! I love her fabrics, super vintage old English feel. LOVE. Plus, I have 4 daughters, so I totally needed to win this book, and I did!

 I used fabrics from Jennifer Paganelli's West Indies line. So fun and pretty, check them out here...
