Today I am sharing a recent finish, my quilt top for the Rockin' Robin Quilt Along!!

Photoshop is out of commission, which means I can't lighten the photo.  Boo!

This is so different from any quilt I've done, I love it!  My favorite parts is that it's funky, I used all scraps and that it is bright!

My favorite rows ended up being the stars and log cabin:

Log Cabins from Meg!

Welcome to week 4 of the Modern Rockin' Robin QAL!  I hope you're having fun seeing the different rows in the flickr group and with the other participating bloggers.  Click here for more information.

This week LOG CABINS!  I was really excited actually because I have never made any log cabin blocks.  And anytime I am stumped when working on a quilt or pattern our mom says, "How about a log cabin?!?"  She loves them.  Here's to you momma!!

This weeks row design is by Anne Marie from Gen X Quilters.

This is the row I deterred most from the original pattern.  And it has nothing to do with Anne Marie's design...I love hers!  I just decided I wanted to do something a little funkier with my quilt, and it helped me with my warm vs cool rules :)

I used the same widths as in the tutorial, I just pieced it together in the traditional log cabin way...ultimately the piecing went Right, Bottom, Left, Top.  For my rules one side is warm fabrics, the other cool. You can tell, right? 

I also made the outer border wonky.

Besides getting to try something new on each row, my favorite part about this QAL is that I chose to use scraps!!  I have so many of my favorite fabrics in here, and some of them were down to itty bitty pieces...I thought I may not find a way to use them.

House Blocks!

Welcome to week 3 of the Modern Rockin' Robin QAL!  It's so great to see all your creations popping up in the flickr group.  Never too late to join...

This week is my week!!  Eek!  It sure was fun, when we initially where throwing this idea around I threw my hat in for the House Block right away.  I really took a modern spin on this...

I chose to do two large house blocks and two blocks with three tiny houses.  They make me happy :)

Now of course for you can put the blocks and row(s) together anyway you'd like.  A block with 6 small houses, a block with a large and small house...I think a row with all small houses would be uber cute!!

The "rule" I made for myself in keeping with my theme of cool vs warm colors was the house itself was opposite of the roof.  So here for example the houses are warms and roofs are cools. I am pretty sure that sentences is pretty offensive to English majors.  Anyway, I also decided all the roofs would be polka dots on every house.  

Making these little rules really helped since I was using all scraps.  It gave me a lot more direction.

I was so excited to fussy cut some of my Heather Ross prints to use for the large house blocks.  I absolutely adore these blocks.

Modern Rockin' Robin STARS!

Our Rockin' Robin Quilt Along is getting so fun!  It's so great to see all your creations popping up in the flickr group.  Today I'm showing how my row for week 2 has turned out.  If you haven't joined yet, it's not too late, it's never too late to join a quilt along!

Broken record: I'm using all scraps and trying to play off of cool and warm fabrics.  So each star is in it's own colorway.  My favorites are the little ones; I love the orange, aqua and navy star the very best.

This is where I used the teeny tiny hst that I wanted to eat.

I love these 16" stars too, so cute coming from the corners.  In my quilt this is my last row, I just liked the look of the large stars at the bottom.

One last shot.  My sincerest apologies if these strings are driving you nuts!  I wait until the very end to cut, almost unbearable for some :)

I mentioned before that my whole quilt is based on cool and warm fabrics.  It was so fun to piece these rectangles...all scraps and it is so amazing to see all these different colors work together!

Background for the whole quilt top is Kona Ash.

If you haven't already, get our your scraps, layer cakes, fat quarters...whatever you've got and start piecing.

First, let me say your responses to my need for help on Friday were amazing!!  Seriously, ya'll are creative folks.  Not only do I now have some plans for my fabric, but I have a new to-do list.  I hummed and hawed and came to a decision on the winners.  Although several responses were the same or similar ideas, I went with whoever said it first (although I realize people probably didn't read the other comments before writing their own).  And I had to pick two...

How you do feel about a Quilt Along??

If your answer is, "eh.." or "no thanks" you can keep that to yourself ;)

I'm so excited to finally get everyone in on this project!  I was contacted by some great bloggers about doing a blog-hop QAL, and Heather and I thought this would be a great way to try out a Quilt Along.

Have you heard of a Row Robin Quilt?  Simply it is a quilt where each row is designed by one person, the quilt is passed around with each person designing their own row, creating a really creative quilt.

The idea behind this QAL is each blogger is creating their own row, and each week a new row will be revealed with a tutorial for 5 weeks.  FUN RIGHT???

Don't worry, having already received each tutorial, my quilt top is done (but it's a secret until the end!!).  So each week you can come here to see how I did my rows, and I'll link you to the tutorial from the other blogger.  The 4 other participating bloggers are Lisa Marie from That Crazy Quilty Girl, Melissa from Lilac Lane, Anne Marie of Gen X Quilters and Jen at ReannaLily Designs Blog.

This is just a little tidbit from one of the rows.  I tell ya, having all the different blocks made this quilt really fun...not creating the same thing over and over.  Loved it.

You'll need 3 yards of background fabric (Kona Ash for me)

A couple of months ago I picked these totes up from Target to organize my scraps.  I have them organized by cool and warm fabrics...and I love it.  I know where to go for which colors, makes it that much easier.

For all the blocks I played off of the cool/warm factors.  It has turned out really neat!  All the blocks are layer cake friendly, really the options for your colorway are endless.

Incentive?  For those who play along and finish their quilts we will have some fabulous prizes.  Stay tuned for more info on that!
