A Joyful Soul Fabrics giveaway!!!

Yeah! Another giveaway! And this one is HUGE my friends!

From our fabulous sponsor A JOYFUL SOUL FABRICS, a wonderful shop that carries great current, modern fabric lines. Be sure to visit their shop, they are also giving our readers a 15% discount on their order anytime between now and April 19th. Just enter QS15 when checking out...

 Heather Bailey Freshcut 30 Fat Quarters (18" x 22")
from Heather Bailey's 2012 re-release of Freshcut!  There are 24 bolts in this line so you will receive one fat quarter from all the bolts plus a doubled fat quarter from 6 bolts to equal 30.  This line was first introduced in 2007 but has been in

demand since so she and Free Spirit decided to reintroduce a smaller variety of

fabrics for those of us who were hoping for more but couldn't find it and
a $96.00 value! A Joyful Soul Fabrics has written a great tutorial for a quilt top using

this bundle and we'll include a copy of it with the giveaway!

This sample is the 60" x 75" version.  It uses 20 fat quarters for the top so I used the remaining 10 from the kit to piece my backing!  I love pieced backs!  You can also make this top 75" x 90" if you use all 30 fat quarters.

What is unique about Joyful Soul fabrics? We asked them, here is what they said:

We specialize in the more contemporary fabrics and

patterns.   With us, you'll receive stellar customer service!  We

provide unique quilt, handbag and project kits and patterns.  We have a
monthly club that started up in March.  You can choose from Fat Quarters

or strips (or both!) and for an automatic charge of $35 per month (plus shipping ans sales tax in Texas) You'll also receive a free pattern card every month!  We are a military family owned business!
Having an online and traveling shop allows us to stay portable and set-up wherever the Navy sends us!  In addition to our web store, we set-up as vendors at various quilt shows in the OK and TX area.  I would love to open a brick and mortar shop but until those Navy retirement papers are signed, no roots for me! If you are in or around Texas, we'll be in Brownwood, TX April 28-29, Abilene, TX June 1-2, and Austin, TX September 14-16 and we're adding more dates!

Cara from Me? A Mom? and her Modern quilt finish...

Cara from Me? A Mom? Is a funny blogger girl. She makes me laugh. Cara has three little daughters and enjoys quilting and blogging about both. We loved this modern quilt she hung in her new workspace. For a little eye candy, check out all these finished quilts, and who doesn't love more tutorials to add to the list? Check these out...Be sure to go check out Me? A Mom? for some inspiration and funny...

I know the Grandmas (and perhaps others) are none too pleased at the shift in the content of this blog. Maybe you miss all the talk about my boobs or all the alcohol-related activities I did with the kids, or what about when Lila was waking up at 4 a.m. each morningThat was fun, wasn't it?Oh I kid.

Truth be told, I often always feel guilty when I pick writing about my hobby over writing about the kids. But hold tight. Posts are coming. I just need to get my mommy-writing mojo back.

In the meantime, indulge me as I share another quilt finish.

Remember this stack of fabric?  It's been through a lot.

New quilt in the works

It was the beginning of a quilt I started in February that I wanted to hang in my office at work. I cut out 304 pieces of fabric for a pattern before realizing a math error. I bemoaned about that here if you care to relive the pain with me.

I then experimented with my miscut fabric scraps and ended up with this wall hanging before finally committing to making a quilt 100% inspired bythis one. I mean, let's face it, it's basically a duplicate. Sorry, Susan. I guess I just loved yours too much.

So now six months later -- yes, six months back to work, can you believe it? -- I can finally say that I have this quilt finished and hanging in my office.

Ta da.

It's on the wall directly across from my desk. At the risk of sounding completely narcissistic, I love looking at it.

I originally started to stipple it. I got about a third of the way done before I realized I wanted a more modern quilting effect. So I unpicked all the quilting and started over. It was worth it. I am really pleased with the random straight (and not so straight) quilting lines.

And keeping with the trend of doing everything more than once, I decided to take out all the basting pins and used 505 basting spray instead. Can I just say that I'm completely hooked on this stuff? It's not smelly, it's easy to use, and it works so much better than safety pins (for me at least).

The Wonky Quilt

Would I ever do this wonky strip patter again? No. Never. It was a pain in the butt to keep wonky yet controllable enough to stay somewhat square (know what I mean?). But I sure am glad I stuck with it.

Fabric Tuesday!

Welcome to Fabric Tuesday!
Such a fun day around here :)

Let's see this week I've been finishing up quilt blocks...I finished my April's BOM, and almost done with my bee blocks, 3 down 2 to go.  And I finished the last block in a quilt for my dad...my sisters (Heather and Amy) and my mom and I all made three blocks for my dad.  Two of the three had to be union jack style and the third could be whatever.   We kept the colors pretty much the same, reds, royal-navy blue and white.  It should be a really cool (and maybe a little funky) quilt.  We're giving it to him for his birthday or Father's day, both in June!  We will most definitely be sharing this one with you!!  I am so excited to see it put together.

I have to tell you looking through Fabric Tuesday links is one of my favorite things to do in the week! I get a little snack and get all comfy and start clicking away.  Sorry we aren't so good at commenting sometimes (naughty naughty) it's just a matter of time some weeks.  Anyway I love it, and so here are some of the ones that made me giddy this week!

The first Monday of each month we share our blocks and have a linky party for you to share too.  You can also add them to our flickr group.

The linky party will be open for a YEAR!  So you can link-up whenever you finish.
