Easter Canvas Tutorial...

Hello! Okay, my camera had some issues, or my computer. I lost a lot of photos. But we are not going to panic. You don't need all the photos for this simple tutorial.  (if you need more photos, you can refer to my Valentine's Canvas tutorial. Very similar projects.)

Darling. Frugal. About 1 hour of your time. 

I know Easter is this weekend, but I am going to leave it up for spring. 

All you need is a 16 x 20 canvas. Hobby Lobby or Walmart. Then a 16x20 piece of fabric. I went all springy on mine. Love it. But would love to see someone do it in a more modern print too... Mod Podge, your fabric to the canvas. Press out bubbles.

Print out these link 1  link 2  files on regular 8.5 x 11 paper. Tape them together at the notch (you will see what I mean). Using the bunny template and white wool felt, cut the bunny out. I found that cutting it with a small blade rotary cutter was the way to go with this project.

Then I just used spray adhesive and placed it on the almost dry mod podge fabric layer.

The nice thing about these canvases is they are super light. You can prop them just about anywhere without nail holes. Just a fun spring touch.  Hope you make one too!

And one more bit of spring decor. I lined the back of my hutch with Michael Miller Pillow and Maxfield fabric. So bright! I am going to bring lots of these bright colors into my living room this year. Hope you like!

Pezzy Churn Dash Quilt from Random Thoughts...

The multi talented Diane from Random thoughts...do or "di" made this "Pezzy Chrun Dash" quilt. How cute is this picnic quilt? I love the random solid blocks in the quilt. I am always to scared to do something like this, but I love seeing it, maybe I will try. Diane loves quilting, gardening, traveling, photography, cooking etc. My kind of gal. I have finished the Pezzy Churn Dash Quilt.

My fourth finish for the year!

I already admitted that I blatantly copied a few other talented ladies here.

This quilt was made with a Layer Cake of Pezzy Prints and White Kona Cotton.
I also added a few coordinating solids
to add to the fun of this quilt.

To say it was easy is an understatement.

To me, this quilt really packs a huge punch for the amount of work that went into it.

Using a walking foot,

I quilted it with straight lines on both sides 

of each vertical and horizontal seam

of each square.

I have a baby shower to go to this weekend.

They already have a little girl and don't know if they are having 

a boy or a girl this time.

Every family needs a picnic quilt.

So that's what they are getting from me.
Any excuse to give someone I love one of my quilts
gives me great pleasure.

Backed with grey gingham and bound with orange polka dots.

This quilt just makes me happy.

I really enjoyed making this quilt.

I have a Layer Cake of Mama Said Sew.

Maybe there is another Churn Dash Quilt in my future.

Our Sister's Quilt Story

Most of you have heard us talk about our brother-in-law who passed away suddenly last September.  He was married to our oldest sister and they have ten children.  It has been a really really sad and hard thing.  Sadly as many of you know there are no words to describe the grief.  BUT I don't want this to be a sad post! We love this family soooo much!!  These kids are so amazing and impress me constantly.

 Here they are recently in all their gorgeousness!

Yep, count em! TEN!  Eight girls and two boys.

I had Lucy two weeks after he passed away so my mom came down to be with me.  We all coordinated and created a quilt for Amy in those couple weeks.  Heather sent some fabric she knew Amy loved, I looked through Amy's pinterest boards for pattern ideas and it just came together!

Amy loves bunnies so the border print was our jumping off point.  We also knew she loved the pink and aqua combo...thank you pinterest.

It looks square in the photo but it is longer than wide.  A good size for getting cozy. 

This is gorgeous Britty, Amy's 6th.  This girls coloring is unreal, the prettiest red hair, blue eyes and creamy skin.  But she is seriously such a sweet heart.  She has been staying with Heather for the time being while a new home is being built for Amy's family so all the extended family can be closer together.

A quilt is absolutely nothing compared to the mountain this family is going through.  But it feels nice to have something tangible to do.  It was nice to do as sisters with our mom.  This is what quilts are for right?  To comfort the people that you love...to show them that you care for them and want so much to help and make everything better.  And you can't, no one can. I hope when Amy uses this quilt she's reminded how much we care about her.  We love you sister.

Yum- Textured Basics!

From time to time Heather and I get some yummy fabrics to share and we love this latest collection from Michael Miller, Textured Basics by Patty Young.

They had me at rainbow.

I love bright and happy fabrics and I've finally gotten Heather onto my side.  But not only does this look adorable on top of my fabric shelf...BUT they are an awesome stash builder.  Seriously, I'm even missing some in the picture because I couldn't wait to cut into them.  I had some pictures of these prints with various projects but somewhere between my camera and the computer they were eaten up.  What can you do...

Each colorway has the same prints... hexies, stripes, dots, etc.  I just spied some Textured Basics at my LQS the other day...

What are your basic go-to's in your stashes?

Mine are definitely dots!

Fabric Tuesday #127

I just got off the phone with Heather (nearly midnight in Utah, an hour behind for me in AZ) and we've been planning a really fun upcoming series!!  I want to spill the beans but you'll just have to wait...until late April :)  It's always exciting to start something new around here!  And since my parents left Saturday I could use some cheering up! It's always sad for a few days when family leaves.  They all live so close together..so I tend to get a little down from time to time.  One of our brothers is coming with his family for Spring Break in a couple weeks so that will be loads of fun!

Okay you can tell it's late, I am totally rambling :)

Whirlygig Quilt from My Quilt Diet

Heather met Marion of My Quilt Diet at her recent quilting retreat (of which I was very jealous!!).  I know Heather had tons of fun and really liked Marion :)  They both made these darling Giant Star Quilts while there.  Today's feature is another quilt Marion finished while at the retreat.  Anyway check out My Quilt Diet, read her ABOUT ME, I love her rules of what she has to do before she can quilt, I think I need to do those too!  And check out her amazing finishes, 2012 and 2013...unreal for quilting just over a year!!  

We've been up at a BEAUTIFUL lodge in Hobble Creek Canyon all weekend at Emily Herrick's Cabin Fever Retreat.

It has been SO much fun :)

I was able to quilt and bind the Whirlygig quilt for my sister.

Whirlygigs is one of Becky Morganson's $29 Mystery Quilts over at Stitches and Sew Forth.  They have a new $29 mystery quilt kit each month ;D  Oooh la la!

....and started a receiving blanket for my new niece Hadley who has just come home from the hospital :)

International Quilting Day celebration...

International Quilting Day is just around the corner on Saturday, March 16, and Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, hosts of The Quilt Show, want quilters, sewers and crafters to come help us celebrate International Quilting Day by seeing what's going on in today's quilting world.
