HST Quilt Finish!!

I finished my HST quilt!  (That's the best name I have)
Happy day.

Click here for HST Quilt Tutorial Part 1
Click here for HST Quilt Tutorial Part 2

The quilt is made entirely of Half Square Triangles.  I am very pleased with how it turned out!  It is a Christmas gift, I can't wait to tie a bow around it :)

I straight-line quilted it.  It created a cool pattern that I wasn't expecting, see those four squares? I love it!  I stitched about 1/2" on each side of each of the large outer squares.

I don't particularly love the backing (especially seeing it held up like this), but it is cool how you can see the design on the white.

I went with the picnic plaid for the binding.  At first I thought because the background was white that it wouldn't stand out enough for me, but I think it compliments the style of the quilt.  It definitely is contrasting, but it doesn't pop, which I think is great for this colorway.

I put this on my baby almost 2 year old {major sigh} and he seriously said "cheese!".  Seriously Ollie!!  So stinking cute.

Finished Quilt Size: 50" x 60"

Fabric line: Modern Meadow 2 by Joel Dewberry and 100% white cotton
I got all of this gorgeous fabric from Treasure Bay Fabrics

Materials needed: Refer to Part 1 of the tutorial for a complete list

Quilting: Straight-line

*Please let me know if you have any questions or if anything is unclear.
*Please send us pictures of your finished quilt!  We'd love to see!  We're working on a flickr account where we can all share, but for now send us an email myquiltstory{at}gmail{dot}com

Wishing you the best this holiday season from sunny Arizona!

How about calling it "HSTs Squared?"

De-lurking to say I LOVE this quilt. Looking at yours I got an inspiration to do a similar one with some fabric I have. Will have to put something like this in my project queue.

Megan, that looks awesome, great job! I love how the quilting totally reminds me of the pattern created in the Picnic Plaid print, which is my personal fave of all of the Modern Meadow prints. Awesome! Merry Christmas to you as well :)

I seriously love everything about this quilt. Especially your 2yr old saying cheese HAHA!
I'm considering upsizing it to king for our new bed. But I've heard so many people complain about HST's that I'm thinking that might be too big. Your fabric selection is fantastic. Modern Meadow is seriously one of my favorites this year.

It's so pretty. I'm jealous of whoever gets that quilt! The colors make me think of the ocean. And the back makes me think of a stormy ocean. And all this before I saw it next to a palm tree! I'm terrible with naming anything, but maybe this will inspire something?

That turned out great! And i love the "cheese"!

I am in envy of your palm trees, we are under several feet of snow here! Only 5 more months until green grass again...sigh.

Your HST quilt is gorgeous! I just finished a top using the same colors from Modern Meadow and was thinking about using the plaid for the binding too. Looks great!

I love this! The colors are fantastic, especially in this design. I'm working on an HST quilt for my sister out of Blush. I can't decide on the layout, but I'm really liking this one. I'll send her over here to check it out and tell me if that's the way she wants hers too.

How did you press your seams? Open or to one side?

Oh my gosh.

After the last, queen sized HST I made, I said I would never make another.

I may have to go back on my word - this is gorgeous!

Your quilt turned out beautifully. I'm almost done with mine - I finished the quilting this morning. I stitched in the ditch around all the diamonds and was pretty pleased with how it turned out. My quilt is a bit bigger, which made quilting harder than I was prepared for but over all I'm pleased with it. I'm hoping the minor pleats that developed while I was quilting will come out in the wash. I also added a border around the quilt (at my husbands suggestion). This weekend I'll be binding and hopefully posting finished pictures soon. Thanks for hosting the QAL!

LOVE the quilt! LOVE the fabric! BUT the directions totally suck. Too bad I could not find how you make HST and better instruction on exactly how many white each and printed 6" squares were needed.

LOVE...LOVE...LOVE this quilt and the amazing photo shoot - especially next to the palm tree! This is exactly the look I was trying to find for my next quilt. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and putting together a tutorial, too!!

I just came across this site and saw your beautiful quilt. I have ordered fabric and want to make it. However, I am a bit confused as to exactly how many white squares and how many patterned squares I should have. Your directions say 60 white, which would imply the need for 60 patterned squares. You explain about sewing together 1 white and 1 print fabric, but you then say repeat this 119 times. If I only had 60 white squares to begin with and I sew each of those to a print fabric, would I not be repeating the step 59 times and NOT 119 times?
Thanks in advance for any responses
