Fabric Tuesday Y'all!

Hi friends!! Welcome to another happy Tuesday to see some wonderful fabric-y eye candy and to share your own!! Usually we feature several link-ups from the previous week....but this week I'm being selfish.  I'm this way from time to time :)

I've recently finished 4 baby quilts and I'm sharing one a day this week!

I loooove this quilt.  It is a very different color palette for me, peach, burnt orange, pink, raspberry, lilac and eggplant!  But I truly love the end result.

It is a simple Flying Geese block. I do each unit on it's own.  I've tried units with less waste/doing more than one at a time.  But for my math to be spot on AND to get my points correct I do best the simple one-at-a-time way.

  

You can see each row just alternates direction.  Simple but still eye catching.  Simple is hard for me to do sometimes!!  I straight line quilted about every 2 inches.  Bound with the sweet lavender solid.  Backing a lovely Riley Blake chevron.

On Mother's Day (and my birthday) I like to just sew whatever I want for fun.  And it usually means starting a new project, and often a project with no real purpose!  Ha!  And so this Mother's Day was the same, I decided I wanted to put together a simple and modern flying geese quilt.

Mostly the quilt's fabrics are Outfoxed by Lizzy House.  There is also one print (I think) of Joel Dewberry's Heirloom (love love this line more and more everyday, I use it so much!!).

Again this was a fun color departure for me. I love all colors, I just really love color.  But like I've said many times, I lean way more towards blues and greens.  So purples, pinks and oranges so different for me and exciting :)  I've been very mindful of this and when choosing new fabrics for my stash and I really try to be more diverse!

When and how this will be quilted?  TBD.  I've looked around for some quilting ideas, I'll keep it simple, probably following the peaks of the geese, just working out exactly how I'll do it.  When this will happen....? :)  The finished size is about 43" x 50".

Gingham Geese Quilt from The Life of Riley

Another fabulous finish to share from Rachel of The Life of Riley.  A sweet modern flying geese quilt! I myself just finished a flying geese quilt top...such a great block you can do so much with.  Rachel's a lot like us and probably many of you...stay at home mommy of four little ones, likes to cook, sew, craft!  My kinda girl :)  Check out her great tutorials and finishes from this year.

 This quilt ended up with Three names!

 Mr. Riley dubbed it The Mario Kart Quilt - because in the game you drive over arrows to speed you up.

 I dubbed it the Bubble Wrap quilt after all the circles were quilted in.

 Officially I think I would call it Gingham Geese.

 It went to my sister, who just turned Thirty!  I figured there was no way a mostly white quilt would survive long in this house.

 It is backed with a woven turquoise gingham.  Nice and soft!  Bound in a solid magenta.  Final measurements: 49" x 69" (I think.  I wrote it down, but of course now I can't find it! Grr!)  Anyway, its a good couch snuggling size.  Not quite twin.

A huge Thank You to Elizabeth at Occasional Piece-Quilt - who sent me the gingham and got me going! 

Twin Fiber's Virtual Quilting Bee Quilt

Twin Fibers is a place Heather and I visit often for inspiration!  Those girls are always working on something darling!!!  Some of my favorite projects are Jennifer's Parasols Quilt (!!!!),  Jessica's Selvage Star Quilt, and Jessica's Mod Times Quilt Along...I can't wait for a break to start this quilt :)  Oh and THIS recent project has me drooling.  Twin Fibers is an absolute MUST if you're a quilt blog hopper :)

Thanks again to Heather and Megan for allowing me to share another one of my quilts with you!

Many of the blocks from this quilt were from the Quilting Diva's Bee that I was in. I received so many gorgeous blocks! The women in that group really spent some time choosing fabrics that were perfect for my color scheme and spent even more time stitching a block together.

I love the eclectic nature of the quilt and I think the sashing and binding really helps to pull it all together. Usually I stick with a solid sashing but I really love how the stripe and patterned cornerstone fabrics work within this quilt.

I've been working hard at finishing up some of my unfinished quilt projects since the beginning of the year and am so glad that I pulled this one out to work on. It would be a shame to have those gorgeous blocks hidden away! Now I see and can enjoy them every day in this quilt. Prairie Points of Interest Quilt, so creative!

I recently moved from Missouri to Arizona.  My mom visited me in both places...and they are very different.  The funniest thing is each time she comes to visit she asks me things like, "What kinds of vegetation grows here?" "What's the story behind that non-remarkable landmark?"  Um...I have no idea!  I've since told her that she's welcome to go to the visitor's center whenever she wants!   Makes me giggle. :)  Well Helen from RobinStar Quilting wanted to make a quilt that represents where she lives.  I love how she put it together, so creative!!  You'll love this quilt, especially you Texans, y'all love your state :)

I have wanted to make a quilt that represents where I live in the

Texas Panhandle.  For a while I have had images of quilt designs

floating around in my head and I finally bought some fabric and got

inspired to come up with my "Prairie Points of Interest" quilt.   In

this design the center focus blocks represent the wild vegetation that

is naturally treeless, the flying geese are representative of the

Canadian Geese that migrate to this area over the winter (they are

everywhere, and I love it), the circles show the 'Playa Lakes' that

abound in the region, the stripes are the furrows of the countless

fields that are planted in corn, cotton, sunflowers, or wheat, and the

open spaces convey the feeling of openness that surrounds the high

plains.  I intended for it to have a modern feel to it and the

vertical quilting maintains that feeling.  I am really pleased with it

and proud of myself for doing it.  I even put a label on the back,

yeah!

 

Red Pepper Quilts...modern flying geese...

We are sure you have heard of a little blog called Red Pepper Quilts...there Rita has an adorable quilt tutorial, binding tutorial and so many of her own finished quilts for us all to admire!  She makes amazing quilts and sells alot of them, and her patterns, at her etsy shop. Be sure to check them out. This flying geese quilt really caught our eye...Thanks Rita!

I love the binding on this quilt. I cannot go past a dot fabric, and particularly love how it looks as a binding. I was in no doubt that this quilt needed a black binding to frame it, and trialled different striped fabrics but settled on the dotty fabric without disappointment.



Thank you for your request to feature my Modern Flying Geese Quilt on QuiltStory, I would love to have this quilt featured.

Inspired by the book that lives on my bedside table - Denyse Schmidt Quilts: 30 Colorful Quilt and Patchwork Projects, as well as by the wonderful Flying Geese Quilts seen on Flickr, I wanted to created my own skein of flying geese.

I have always dreaded making Flying Geese units but this time I used the "Easy Star & Geese Ruler" by Kimberly Einmo which, although it meant working with bias edges, gave me the control I need to make Flying Geese unit of consistent size.

I have used several different linen and linen blend fabrics in this quilt, all very similar in color but varying in texture and weight, to add variety and interest. In choosing fabrics I have limited the number of fabrics and only worked with red/pink, orange, black and grey fabrics. I also ensured that there was a mix of large and small scale fabrics, adding solid fabrics as a feature.

I have also made a very fresh and modern version of the same Flying Geese Quilt:

Elizabeth of Sunflower Fields Patterns

Today we've got a cute quilt from Elizabeth, a brand new quilt pattern designer.  She has a cute little themes running between her quilts and patterns, you'll have to check out her blog Sunflower Fields Patterns and her etsy shop to hear more!


I love to draw dollies and on several of my quilt designs I have appliqued dollies.  One of my favorite pieces is Miss Millie Herself and this quilt is a spin off from that.  I had hope to make several in this series this summer but got side track working on pieces for a new book.  The two large flowers are autumn flowers from Miss Millie's garden !!

I take old quilt blocks, give them a new look with some fun and unique items but making them easy and quick.
